Before you even get to match day, check the current IDPA Rule Book & Equipment Appendices (https://www.idpa.com/idpa-match-rules/) to ensure that you have at least read the rules and your gear is compliant. If you have any questions, please reach out to us and we’ll be happy to advise you (info@myathl.com). What follows below is a general overview and does not supersede the rule book – if you read the Rule Book and it disagrees with anything written below then go with the Rule Book!
Generally speaking, you’ll need:
- 4 pistol magazines (really, 3 is fine) OR 4 speedloaders (for revolver shooters)
- a mag pouch/speedloader holder to contain them (two mags on your belt, one in the firearm and one as a loader or “Barney” mag OR three speedloaders secured to your belt and one for loading at the start of a stage),
- an IDPA-compliant holster (not skeletonized, covers the trigger completely, securely holds the firearm so it won’t fall out – see the Rule Book for more details),
- an IDPA-compliant firearm (see specifics for each Division in the Equipment Appendices)
- concealment garment – this must cover the firearm and magazines or speedloaders, the way to test this is the “T” test – put on all your gear and stand facing a mirror with your arms out parallel to the ground so you’re now a human in the shape of a “T” – can you see the muzzle or bottom of your holster? Are your magazines exposed? If yes, you need better concealment!
- About 200 rounds of ammunition, though this can go up if you’re not a confident shooter and you expect to need a few extra shots to solve any given shooting problem.
You then register for a match via PractiScore (https://practiscore.com/clubs/alberta-tactical-handgun-league) so we know you’re coming and can squad you accordingly. NO WALK-ONS ARE PERMITTED. This means that if you just show up then you’ll be invited to stay as a spectator-only. Once you’ve registered, you’ll be required to pay for the match by the Tuesday prior to the weekend of the match (regardless if the match is a Saturday or Sunday).

We ask that you show up on the range bay, ready to build stages by the time indicated on PractiScore. So if the time is 9:30, plan to arrive by 8:45-9:00 and be unloaded, geared up, and on the bay by 9:30 to help your squad build out the morning stages.
We’ll guide you along from there!
